A new PR!!
Every year my kids school has a 5k fundraiser. they also offer a one mile. Madison has always chosen the 5k, my son the one mile. So this year she had big plans. She had picked out her friends brother to beat! He is in Middle school. That's okay because he is a rookie and she had done five 5k's. So off we go, and she is running her normal slow and steady pace. Jeramey blows by her. No big deal mom, we'll get him on the up-hill!! Wow! Okay, so we keep going, walking briefly to drink but steady eddie! Mom, Look Jeramey is walking, let's go get him!! We are at mile 2 and the next mile is all up hill but she is smiling and chatting away so I know she is doing great. As we round the corner to finish on the track she is grinning ear to ear and pushing to beat Jeramey! As she finishes she mentions that she felt better than last year, and she took nearly six minutes off her time. A 34 min 5k and she is only just 8 years old. She placed 3rd in her grade and is very happy. Reiley continues to improve his one mile, and we are very proud of both kids! What a great day. I just love this stuff.

Following in Mom's footsteps maybe?
My 9 year old is interested in a 8k next March, what do you think?
That depends on your child's fitness and desire to build up to an 8K.We "trained" every week for 8 weeks. I know there is tons of info out there and some say not to let them run more than 5k until they are fully developed. But I know that just in playing my kids run a lot!! Maybe start with a shorter race and see how it goes! Good luck!!
