Harvest Moon!!!!

Harvest Moon is a local half-ironman that brings all the fast people who are going to Hawaii or just like to kick the rest of our sorry butts! Saturday the weather was great, blue sky, warm sun perfect temps. Race day was the opposite. It was cold, cloudy and yes I wanted to do the du! The water temp in the cove was 61 and it was colder the further out you went. It was brain freeze cold. I struggled with the swim, backstroked a few times to slow down the breathing, I was COLD. I wanted to quit, twice. But I knew that if I just finished the swim I would do well. I pretended I was Nemo, and just kept swimming. I stepped on the beach 30:22, not bad but it was most likely short!

On to the bike and I could not feel my legs, feet or hands. It made eating and drinking very difficult. The bike ride felt easy, and my legs felt fresh. I knew that I did not eat enough but was excited to get on to the run so I could warm up. My husband and I were in transition together, which meant he made up the 5 minute head start I had. We gave a quick kiss and I took off. I still could not feel my feet but I was flying. I kept wondering how I was going to keep up the pace, but I had nothing to lose and I need to learn to run fast. By mile 3 the pins and needles were gone and I could feel my feet hitting the ground. I felt so alive and fit. This is why I race, I really love the feeling you get when you are having a good day! As I approached the turn around I started counting the girls coming back. Some were in the elite wave and two were in my age group. I had to keep going, oh and I had put a 4 min gap on Larry! Thanks Terri for the updates!

In the end I went 5:20 and placed third in my age group. Two years ago I went 5:25 and placed second. These girls are getting fast! I had fun and felt great, if only I could bottle that feeling up for IMAZ. And yes Larry beat me by mere seconds. One of these days baby!!! I will post pictures when I get them from Terri! Thanks for cheering us on and staying around for the awards!!
